| LOVE TIES PRINCESS TO BRITAIN
And far from discouraging their daughter from altering her plans, Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah could not be more pleased about her increasing bond with Clark, 26, who is a St Andrews University friend of Prince William. Indeed, the Duchess of York invited David to join her, Beatrice and Eugenie skiing in Verbier, where they are staying at the luxurious chalet of Fergies old boyfriend, motor-racing multi-millionaire Paddy McNally. Its now Beatrices view that she has already done quite enough travelling after leaving St Georges School in Ascot last summer she went to Brazil and to Argentina, where she stayed on the ranch inherited by the Duchess of York from her late mother Susan Barrantes. She popped back to the UK to appear in Martin Scorseses film about her ancestor Queen Victoria, and then again for the Queens diamond wedding celebrations.
Clinton's cred with Latinos questionable
THE CLINTONS have demonstrated in this primary season a knack for building bridges to minority groups and then blowing them up. Having alienated African Americans, Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton are proving to be equal opportunity offenders by irritating parts of the Latino community through divisiveness, condescension and scapegoating. Then, to cover their tracks, they trot out prominent Latinos who assure the flock that the Clintons have always fought for them. Recently, Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Workers union with Cesar Chavez, has been stumping for Hillary Clinton in the Southwest. Painting Barack Obama as someone who only recently discovered Latinos, Huerta assures crowds that Hillary is "not the Johnny Come Lately" in this election and that the former first lady "has been advocating for us for 35 years" dating back to registering Hispanic voters in Texas when Clinton was fresh out of Yale Law School.

McCain In Most Pointless Scandal Anywhere, Ever
The Times wishes to rehash the Keating/McCain connection, and they research and write a piece. Some asswipe - maybe Keller, maybe not - reads it in an editorial meeting and says, "It's not sexy enough." Reporting team then digs, and digs, and digs some more, until they come up with the lamest sexy in the history of sexy. They put it in, but cooler heads prevail (possibly Keller in this role, instead) and the story is pulled. Asswipe is unhappy and leaks it to Drudge, because Asswipe wants the sexy! Finally, several thousand painful editorial meetings later, Asswipe gets his whiny way and it's printed. And today, somewhere in the Times building, cooler heads are saying, I TOLD YOU SO. Just a thought. .
Ray Harryhausen's monster gift to film
Most of his films are filled with stars you've never heard of, and at the time they didn't win awards. But in the Bay Area, the unofficial capital of the special effects industry, Harryhausen is still the most recognizable name in the business. He's treated like a rock star when he flies into town - during his most recent appearance, last Wednesday at the Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, Harryhausen received his first standing ovation of the evening before he even reached the stage. "I had no idea at the time that my films would be remembered like this," Harryhausen says during a phone interview late last week. He was scheduled to speak with The Chronicle after the show, but had to postpone when the line of autograph seekers snaked across the stage and all the way down the theater aisle.
Fraud victim? Banks clash over blame
I want to nail one myth: it is not impossible to go to the police to report an incident. An individual is still entitled to go to the police, but the first port of call would normally be the financial institution.' The Government is currently in the process of establishing a national fraud reporting centre, which will investigate any incidences of under-reported card crime. Official statistics indicate that the majority of people still contact their bank about card crime rather than the police. There were 59,000 cases of bank fraud reported to police in 200607, but nearly 2.3m reported to Apacs during the same period. Have you had your bank account or credit card defrauded? Did you contact your bank, your local police station or both and were you happy with their response? Please e-mail alan.o'sullivan@thisismoney.co.uk with your story.
UDRP: The Liabilities for the Corporations and/or their Lawyers
This post is based on the scenario that a trademark.tld domain name is registered with a UK ICANN accredited registrar, (they have an exclusive UK jurisdiction clause in their contracts), the trademark.tld criticism website located at that domain name is strictly non-commercial, the servers are located in the UK, and the registrant is a British citizen. In the above circumstances, the corporations and/or their lawyers are taking a big risk when they use the UDRP in order to silence criticism at trademark.tld. Like fashion, many trends come around again, for example protests. In the sixties, protesters marched with banners, now they can sit at a keyboard and their banner is their trademark.tld criticism website on the Internet. This is peaceful protest, and reaches a far wider audience than any other form of protest.
Where do women voters stand
I had a little trouble voting the other day. In my excitement I neglected to insert the electronic voting card until it fully clicked into place. If the precinct volunteers noticed me frowning at the screen, lingering at the booth a little longer than necessary, they probably just thought, "Here we go again. Another female voter who can't make up her mind." For women of both parties, last Tuesday's ballot was enough to give anyone pause. Democrats were made giddy by their choices, happily asking themselves, "Which way do I want to help make history?" Republican women were also kicking around the candidates, for entirely different reasons— their choices felt more filled with compromise. The GOP offered them a hair-triggered straight-talker hated by his party's base, a folksy preacher without a prayer and a Mormon flip-flopper with the visage of Reagan but none of the charisma.
Holla Backlash
Apparently he gave away a free copy of his album with every issue of the British tabloid Planet Earth purchased over the weekend. (Just in case the readers desired more than just subscription slips to toss in the trash.) Once again, His Purpleness is ticking off his record label - the album is not scheduled to go on sale until July 24. And music stores are furious. Prince has a global distribution and marketing deal with Columbia, but the British arm of the business has pulled out of the agreement, claiming that this only seems fair. (Quick! Change your name to a symbol again. Record companies are powerless against the symbol!) Anyway, Prince is past his musical prime - especially since the Jehovah's Witnesses have really softened his musical content (if ya know what we mean wink wink).
What FBI Whistle-Blower Sibel Edmonds Found in Translation
Most Americans have never heard of Sibel Edmonds, and if the U.S. government has its way, they never will. The former FBI translator turned whistle-blower tells a chilling story of corruption at Washington's highest levels - sale of nuclear secrets, shielding of terrorist suspects, illegal arms transfers, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, espionage. She may be a first-rate fabulist, but Ms. Edmonds' account is full of dates, places and names. And if she is to be believed, a treasonous plot to embed moles in American military and nuclear installations and pass sensitive intelligence to Israeli, Pakistani and Turkish sources was facilitated by figures in the upper echelons of the State and Defense Departments. Her charges could be easily confirmed or dismissed if classified government documents were made available to investigators.
MARY ROSE AND CUTTY SARK GET £31M HERITAGE LOTTERY FUNDING
One of the world's oldest surviving warships, the 16th century Mary Rose has been saved once again after being awarded a £21 million Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant, amid fierce competition for funds. In July 2007, the Mary Rose Trust had been unsuccessful in its bids to secure HLF funding for the ship's preservation and a new museum designed by award-winning architects Wilkinson Eyre. After the latest announcement, with plans now going ahead, the cash injection will also bring 19,000 rare artefacts, found with the ship, under one roof for the first time and allow completion of a 26 year conservation project. .
Review: Jill Scott woos crowd in Oakland
Jill Scott's first record was 2000's "Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1," an independent label effort that produced two hit singles and would eventually be certified as double platinum. Since that splashy entrance, Scott has cooled off a bit. In fact, she hasn't had a single land in the top 100 since 2001's "The Way." That might lead some to wonder, "Where is Jill Scott?" A closer look, however, reveals one of the most consistently successful careers in modern R&B. Following that mega-popular debut, the powerhouse vocalist would go on to release three gold records, including last year's "The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3," and has been a constant presence on the R&B singles chart. She's also amassed a bevy of Grammy nominations, and two actual awards, over the years.
